Aug 21, 2023 at 7:52 comment added Arsenal @Mr.N I'm sorry, I can't really recommend any books, most of my photonics knowledge comes from my master course in microsystems engineering, sprinkled with some articles from Wikipedia and datasheets or application notes from manufacturers. I think a good exercise is to try to understand the Wikipedia articles and maybe write your own map on how quantities interact with each other with some sketches.
Aug 20, 2023 at 1:55 comment added Mr. N Very interesting question and answer! I have been trying to understand photometry better, however I lack some good references. The ones I asked ChatGPT don't have a mathematical approach. Which books, Arsenal, do you recommend reading? I do not know much besides the quantities definitions. Thanks in advance!

added a new thought why we overestimate things in the last case
Sep 2, 2017 at 3:37 comment added uhoh fyi this could still use a more quantitative answer: How to make a green LED as visually bright as a 0 magnitude star?
Sep 2, 2017 at 3:36 comment added uhoh Wow! This is a very thorough and valuable answer! Thank you for taking the time to work things through in each of the different scenarios. I have a hunch I will be referring back to this answer regularly.
