CNBC had things to say about how Americans hoarding their devices is costing the economy. Everyone is racing to discount new devices this week, but the biggest economic win in this article is hiding in plain sight. The issue is not that people keep their phones too long. It is that most devices are not designed to last in the first place. Extend software support, make repair normal, keep parts available, and the "productivity drag" suddenly shrinks. Repair keeps people moving. Modular design keeps networks fast. Circular systems keep value circulating instead of leaking into e-waste. If tech were built to last, with parts access and long support from day one, Black Friday would look very different. We're working on that future, one product at a time.
