‘The Drama’ Teaser: Zendaya and Robert Pattinson Star in a Marriage Story That’s Not What It Seems

Whatever horrors await in the new A24 film from "Dream Scenario" director Kristoffer Borgli and producer Ari Aster, the team is keeping them close to the chest.

From “Father of the Bride” to “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and more bro-ish fare like “The Hangover,” plenty of movies have captured how things always seem to go sideways in the run-up to nuptials and can still have a happy ending. But even with little to go on, we can assume that “The Drama,” from “Dream Scenario” filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli, will not be one of those films.

The upcoming A24 feature stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as “a happily engaged couple” who is “put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails,” according to the logline. While that premise seems harmless enough, Borgli is not in the habit of making innocuous films; instead, his previous features, including “Sick of Myself,” revel in the repulsive aspects of people and contemporary, image-obsessed society. Add to that the fact that “Beau Is Afraid” filmmaker Ari Aster is the one producing “The Drama,” and that both of its stars enjoy taking on twisted romantic roles when they have a chance, and it seems audiences are in for a bit more than a wedding-themed comedy of errors.

Exactly what kind of horrors await are very much unclear, given that the newly-released teaser trailer mostly focuses on a scene where Zendaya and Pattinson’s characters look uncomfortable while practicing for wedding shots. There are only the vaguest hints about what’s to come in flashbacks to happy moments from the couple’s life together, which give way to frenzied scenes from the wedding day, including the husband-to-be with a bloody nose. But Donna Lewis’ “I Love You Always Forever” bopping along cheerily in the background can’t be a good sign.

“The Drama” will be released in theaters nationwide on April 3, 2026. The film also stars Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, and Hailey Gates. Watch the film’s first teaser trailer below.
