  • 👀Caught in the act! 👀 Don't let a lack of vision rob you of precious production time. With Event Video Playback enabled by TwinCAT Vision, operators can instantly review exactly what occurred to cause system downtime, whether an unexpected application fault or our mischievous product manager, Todd Jarvey. 📹 By giving maintenance and engineering teams clear visual context with what amounts to "instant replay", you can speed up troubleshooting, boost safety, and minimize unplanned downtime on your machines. 👉 Visit our website to learn more and get access to a free Event Video Playback download for your TwinCAT software: https://loom.ly/u621Sro #Beckhoff | #TwinCAT | #MachineVision

  • ⚽ 🤖 When you get a call asking if you'd like to help build a robot that goes head-to-head with Cristiano Ronaldo… you say yes before they’re even done asking. 🙌 Huge congratulations to Jakob Sagatowski, Mark Rober, and Ian Charnas for turning this wildly ambitious concept into a real, functioning, Ronaldo-defending robotic goalkeeper. We’re proud that Beckhoff technology, and a lot of Jakob’s brilliant programming, helped bring it to life! A few behind-the-scenes details we’re especially proud of: ✅ Coordination with an OptiTrack ultra-high precision motion capture solution. ✅ A Beckhoff CX5140 Embedded PC running #TwinCAT software accepting values from a Python application via ADS communications which controls the robot’s drives to move at hyper-speed to goaltending position. ✅ PLC code and #EtherCAT network running at a 250 µs cycle time to reduce latency. ✅ An HMI to home and test high-speed motion sequences. 💫 This project is a great example of what can happen when curiosity meets collaboration in the spirit of friendly competition: #PCBasedControl can play far outside the bounds of industrial automation. 👇 Don’t miss the full video below! 👇

Imagine my surprise when I was asked to help with building a robot supposed to play against five times FIFA player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo! One of the world's biggest YouTubers Mark Rober and his team asked me if I could help them with software development of a soccer goalie robot. The question that posed itself was whether one of the best football players in the world has any chance against an industrial automation system. Back in 1997 the super computer "Deep Blue" was the first to beat a world class chess master Kasparov. In 2025, a PLC together with a motion capture system and some powerful drives had a challenge against a world class football player, Ronaldo. Only a madman would say no to such an opportunity & it's been one of the funniest projects I've ever been involved in! Not only in terms of the possibility to build something that will play against Ronaldo himself, but also in terms of the people I got to work together with. Mark's team is motivated, driven, creative and a joy to work with! This project (as with many others) shows that PLCs can be used for so much more than manufacturing. I want to take the opportunity to thank Ian Charnas, Mark Rober, the rest of the team at CrunchLabs, Yaskawa America, Inc. - Drives & Motion Division, Beckhoff Automation USA & Beckhoff Automation Sverige for the great collaboration! And how did it go against Ronaldo? Watch for yourself and enjoy: https://lnkd.in/duu_6yRs
