The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), through the Global Geothermal Alliance (GGA), held a virtual workshop titled “Unlocking Geothermal Energy Potential for Urban Development: Decarbonising District Heating and Cooling and Agri-Food Sectors in South East Europe.” Aligned with the mandate of GGA to strengthen regional capacity, the workshop equipped 43 officials with actionable knowledge to apply within their institutions, supporting the accelerated deployment of geothermal heating and cooling systems across South East Europe (SEE). The workshop convened leading #geothermal experts to provide policymakers, municipalities, and regional partners with insights into the status of geothermal direct-use applications and assess its potential in SSE, including opportunities in DHC and agri-food systems. They also explored key enablers for scaling deployment: from regulatory reforms and innovation to risk-mitigation tools and effective project management, — all essential for advancing the region’s #energytransition cleaner, more #sustainable heating and cooling solutions across SEE. 🌊 When life is tied to the ocean, weather conditions matter. In Kwale County, Kenya, when the waves are too high and the winds are too strong, fishermen cannot supply fresh fish to the sellers & restaurants. Cold storage becomes essential to keep today's catch for tomorrow's market. But without steady power, it was a struggle… until solar arrived ☀️ 🎥 Watch their story. #EnergyAccess #RenewableEnergy #3xRenewables #EnergyTransition
