🏆 Congratulations to AI-EDGE researchers Kubra ALEMDAR (Northeastern University), Arnob Ghosh (New Jersey Institute of Technology), Vini Chaudhary, Ph.D. Chaudhary (Mississippi State University), Ness Shroff (The Ohio State University), and Kaushik Chowdhury (University of Texas at Austin) for receiving the Best Paper Award at ACM MobiHoc 2025 — the premier international conference on mobile dynamic networks, wireless communication, and computing! 📡 Only one paper was selected for this top honor out of 169 submissions to this prestigious conference. Their award-winning paper, “REMARKABLE: RIS-Enabled Mobile Beamforming through Kernelized Bandit Learning,” introduces an innovative online learning–based adaptive beam selection framework. 🚀 https://lnkd.in/efvmVzxX By leveraging a rotatable Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS), their method achieves reliable, interference-aware connectivity for mobile robots — with an impressive 94.2% accuracy in highly dynamic environments. 🤖💡 This success exemplifies the collaborative spirit of AI-EDGE, bringing together expertise across institutions to achieve a solution far greater than the sum of its parts — a demonstration of how AI, wireless systems, and edge intelligence can unite to drive the next generation of intelligent connectivity.

NSF AI Institute for Future Edge Networks and Distributed Intelligence (AI-EDGE)
About us
The AI-EDGE Institute is one of the $20M AI Institutes funded by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Homeland Security to create a research, education, knowledge transfer, and workforce development environment that will help develop the United State’s technological leadership in future generation edge networks (6G and beyond) and distributed AI for many decades to come. The AI-EDGE Institute is led by The Ohio State University and consists of 11 leading research universities (The Ohio State University, University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin, University of Washington, University of Illinois Chicago, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Purdue University, University of Texas Austin, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Northeastern University). Networking and AI are two of the most transformative IT technologies --- helping to better people’s lives, contributing to national economic competitiveness, national security, and national defense. The Institute will exploit the synergies between networking and AI to design the next generation of edge networks (6G and beyond) that are highly efficient, reliable, robust, and secure. A new distributed intelligence plane will be developed to ensure that these networks are self-healing, adaptive, and self-optimized. The future of AI is distributed because AI will increasingly be implemented across a diverse set of edge devices. These intelligent and adaptive networks will in turn unleash the power of collaboration to solve long-standing distributed AI challenges, making AI more efficient, interactive, and privacy preserving. The Institute will develop the key underlying technologies for distributed and networked intelligence to enable a host of future transformative applications such as intelligent transportation, remote healthcare, distributed robotics, and smart aerospace.

Had a great time organizing and moderating a panel on "Learning at the Edge" at this year's IEEE INFOCOM conference. Special thanks to my distinguished panelists Ness Shroff, Deniz Gunduz, Jianwei Huang, and Shiqiang Wang for providing a very lively and engaging 90 minute discussion. And thanks to Kin K. Leung for being a wonderful local host! IEEE IEEE Communications Society

Exciting news for OSU!
Today we’re launching NextGenAI, a first-of-its-kind consortium with 15 leading research institutions dedicated to using AI to accelerate research breakthroughs and transform education. AI has the power to drive progress in research and education—but only when people have the right tools to harness it. That’s why OpenAI is committing $50M in research grants, compute funding, and API access to support students, educators, and researchers advancing the frontiers of knowledge. Uniting institutions across the U.S. and abroad, NextGenAI aims to catalyze progress at a rate faster than any one institution would alone. This initiative is built not only to fuel the next generation of discoveries, but also to prepare the next generation to shape AI’s future.
