As both a policymaker and a mom of six, Administrator Roth has seen firsthand how hard it is for families to manage screen time. It’s challenging enough at home, but even harder now that so much of the school day and homework now happens on a device. While cell phones have been the focus of debate, classroom laptops, tablets, and digital platforms can be just as distracting—if not more so. When screens become the default rather than a targeted tool, critical developmental activities get pushed aside: reading, writing, physical and creative play, hands-on learning, and face-to-face interaction. That’s why NTIA is launching an effort to put children first when it comes to school-based tech use. We want to examine how federal policies, subsidies, and market dynamics may be pushing more screens into classrooms. 🗓️ Join NTIA’s virtual public listening session on December 10th, 12–1:30 p.m. ET. We want to hear from parents, teachers, students, and researchers. More about the effort here: https://lnkd.in/eTdF3Bxv

The 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles are gearing up to be a global celebration of sports—and a powerful platform for American innovation. With #MissionLA2028, NTIA is supporting industry-led demonstrations of what could be with 6G: immersive experiences, AI-powered networking, integrated sensing, and seamless terrestrial-satellite connectivity. Maybe it will feature drones powered by 6G-enabled sensing and AI navigation tracking Olympic sailing races in real time. Or showcase integrated sensing that creates a three-dimensional digital twin of a venue, allowing someone to explore the track in extended reality. Whatever the vision is, NTIA is here to help industry partners bring their boldest ideas to life. If you’re building the future of 6G, we want to hear from you. 📩 missionla2028@ntia.gov or visit https://lnkd.in/erUBAYMp

🚨 Today, NTIA approved Final Proposals from 18 States and Territories under the BEAD program, unlocking billions in savings and accelerating deployment of high-speed internet across the country. Due to the Trump Administration’s Benefit of the Bargain reforms, these proposals are projected to save approximately $6 billion, thanks to a surge in participation, competition, and private sector matching contributions. 🌎 From Maine to Guam, communities are one step closer to the connectivity they need. One state, Louisiana, has also already signed their award amendments and is ready to move forward with deployment. More here: https://lnkd.in/e7Rxq8sd

🚀 Today Administrator Roth spoke at the Americas Spectrum Management Conference, announcing NTIA’s new Space Launch Frequency Coordination Portal. The portal gives satellite launch providers faster, easier access to the congested S-band spectrum, heavily used by federal agencies. We know the future of space is fast-moving. NTIA is helping to ensure that innovation doesn’t get stuck in a bottleneck, especially as launch activity accelerates. U.S. leadership must remain strong, agile, and strategic.
