- [Presenter] As a Canadian, I always find it amusing that my US colleagues are fascinated with the fact that cereal boxes are in both French and English. This is due to a Canadian law that establishes we have two official languages, French and English. The reasons are both historical and pragmatic. Canada was a major source of furs and other items in the 1600s. The traders and explorers who were involved were primarily from France and England. On the pragmatic side, one of Canada's major provinces, Quebec, is primarily French-speaking.
