Understanding table spans
- Table spans occur whenever you merge cells in a table in the source application. It's a common practice to merge cells in a table for a variety of different reasons. But when you do this, you could end up with an accessibility issue if you don't properly remediate those tables. In order to be able to do this, you need to understand what a span is and how they're defined. So let's take a closer look. Here, we have a table that I've created and within this table I've created a couple of merged cells for the category of tubers as well as the category for vegetables. Now, this is what happens when we merge more than one cell together. When you go to check your document, you'll typically get what's called irregularity error. And irregularity error occurs whenever your table does not have the same number of cells in a row or a column. Okay? So, in this particular example here what used to be two cells, right, for tubers…
