Perceivable images and icons

- [Instructor] First, what is an image? We're not just talking about photos and animated gifs. An image is any non-text graphic icon fonts, SVG elements, background images, and real image elements. All images need some form of alternative text whether to ensure an image is ignored or to show why this image is present on the page and explain its purpose. Alternative text is the text that a screen reader user will get as a substitute for the graphic, and there are many ways of providing that text depending on the type of image you are using. Images fall into one of three groups decorative, content, or functional. When you use an image, you should ask these questions. Why is it here? What is it for? Do you have any decorative images on your site? These are images for visual impact only. They might be stock photography that reinforces content or an icon to enhance the clarity of an existing control, like a magnifying glass…
