Summary

Modern technical communication refers to the ways information is created, shared, and understood in technology fields, which are rapidly changing thanks to digital platforms, automation, and new methods for organizing content. Current trends highlight the rise of authentic voices, AI-ready documentation, and data-driven methods that make information clearer and more trustworthy for both people and machines.

  • Champion authenticity: Focus on sharing real experiences and honest insights to build trust, rather than relying only on polished marketing messages.
  • Structure for AI: Organize your documentation with clear purpose and markup so both humans and artificial intelligence can easily find and use relevant information.
  • Use real-time data: Make decisions based on up-to-date analytics and feedback to keep your communications relevant and impactful.

After 30+ years in tech, I've watched a fascinating shift in how enterprise technology information flows. The gatekeepers are losing their gates, and I couldn't be happier about it. Just published a new article exploring how distributed influence is reshaping enterprise technology communications. The days of carefully controlled PR messaging and analyst gates are fading fast. Key insights: • 87% of tech decisions now influenced by independent voices • Traditional tech media giving way to authentic, earned expertise • Micro-influencers with real technical knowledge driving conversations • Corporate PR teams struggling with loss of message control What I find most exciting? The best ideas and most honest insights now rise to the top, regardless of marketing budgets or corporate backing. I've seen this coming for years - watching as social media, podcasts, and independent content creators steadily chip away at the old guard's influence. This isn't just change - it's progress. When a developer sharing real implementation experiences on YouTube can influence more buying decisions than a major analyst firm, we're moving in the right direction. To my fellow enterprise tech veterans: embrace this shift. The future belongs to authentic voices and earned authority. As someone who's been both a traditional analyst and independent voice, I can tell you - this democratization of influence is making our industry stronger and more transparent. Your thoughts? How are you seeing this play out in your corner of the tech world? #EnterpriseTehnology #TechInfluence #DigitalTransformation #CloudComputing #TechTrends #Innovation #Leadership P.S. Would love to hear from others who've been watching this transformation. Drop your experiences in the comments!

Technical communication seems to be evolving from "Every Page is Page One" to "Every Document is a RAG Document." Alvin Reyes' presentation on content evolution particularly resonated with me. While we've progressed through various documentation approaches—from "cram it in a book" to "link it up"—we're now entering an era where content must have explicit purpose for AI consumption . .. what I'm starting to call telos - or the Greek word for the ultimate aim of something. Experts like Erin Servais confirmed what I've been experimenting with in my knowledge base development when crafting telos into our docs: ‣ Keep RAG knowledge bases tightly focused ‣ Include both exemplary and problematic examples ‣ Use XML and structured markup to define content chunks ‣ Design content with search optimization in mind As Sarah Packowski emphasized: "CONTENT IS DATA!" Without properly structured content, even the most sophisticated RAG implementation will struggle to match user queries with relevant information. How are you preparing your documentation to serve both human readers and AI systems?
