How do I enable root account = set root password in Synology DSM 7.2?

(On Synology DS923+, but I believe it is not at all hardware-bound.)

Being rooted with sudo -i, I tried passwd, but I got:

-ash: passwd: command not found

Same result can be achieved by prefixing passwd with sudo.

So, I just went through most of the search results, most claiming it is no longer possible, however it is still possible in 7.2 and maybe in later versions of DSM.

Try this, just change the the password to something better:

sudo synouser -setpw root 'NewR00tPa$$w0rd'

If you must ask, why I enclosed the password in '...', then it is a precaution. See those two dollar signs? Try echo a$$w, and you'll see. Not having had used any shell variable, I would not have to, but still I would recommend on using them.
